John is the general manager of The Barker Hotel in Gawler Street. He has been managing the hotel for nearly 20 years and has a story or two to tell. One such story is about the presence of a ghost of a child. Numerous cleaners, after hours, have found fingerprints on freshly wiped glass and footprints on freshly mopped floors.

We know it as 'The Barker' but it was originally named the 'Scotch Thistle' and dates right back to 1840. Whilst the extensive building has been modernised throughout, it has retained many of its heritage features including much of the original stonework, and perhaps even a 19th-century ghost.
